Meridian Design Build Launches Industrial Project for Amylu Foods

Meridian Design Build recently began construction on an 84,000-square foot USDA meat processing plant for Amylu Foods in the heart of Chicago’s Stockyards Industrial Park at 1400 W. 44th St. The tenant has been a Chicago-area presence since its 1924 founding as Leon’s Sausage Company.

The new sausage processing facility will include 56,000 square feet of production/cold storage space, a -10 °F freezer, and 16,500 square feet of corporate office space featuring separate raw and cooked employee facilities, laboratory, and test kitchen functions.

Meridian’s work on the project includes the design and installation of process systems necessary to support production equipment including steam, sanitation, compressed air, venting, and process gas. An expandable central ammonia refrigeration plant is being provided to accommodate plant cooling and production loads.

The project is being completed on a design-build basis, with architectural services provided by Harris Architects. Civil engineering services are being provided by Kimley-Horn.
