Medical Testing Firm Acquires Alere in $440M Deal Including San Diego HQ

San Diego-based Quidel Corporation agreed to acquire Alere Inc.’s Triage business, including real estate for the San Diego Triage facilities, and the BNP business for a total consideration of $400 million, plus $40 million in contingent consideration. The deal involves an 84,024-square-foot flex office building that serves as Alere’s San Diego headquarters.

The products are being divested in order to obtain antitrust approvals required for Abbott’s pending acquisition of Alere. The sale transactions are subject to the completion of Abbott’s acquisition of Alere, as well as antitrust approvals.

In addition to the administrative office and manufacturing facility in San Diego at 9975 Summers Ridge Rd., Alere operates facilities in 12 other locations across the U.S.
