McLane to Take Over Vacant Grocer Warehouse
McLane Co. is taking over part of a vacant 1.2 million-square-foot warehouse/refrigeration plant in Fort Worth’s Carter Industrial Park to bolster its distribution network. The facility, at 7550 Oak Grove Rd., is scheduled to open in spring 2019, and will employ up to 400 center workers and 150 drivers. The building is situated on 90.7 acres, and once housed Associated Wholesale Grocers, which shut down in 2017.
McLane, headquartered in Temple, TX, is one of the largest wholesalers of groceries and food supplies to convenience stores, restaurants and drug stores. The company will spend $18 million to beef up 625,000 square feet. The city of Fort Worth offered an incentive package to McLane, consisting of a 50% property tax abatement for approximately five years.
According to McLane President Tony Frankenberger, the company had examined locations in Oklahoma and Arkansas, but ultimately decided on Fort Worth because of its strategic location.
