Martin Selig Breaks Ground on 15-Story Redevelopment in Seattle’s SLU
Martin Selig Real Estate (MSRE) broke ground on 400 Westlake, its inaugural project in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. After more than two years of pre-design and planning, the developer kicked off a 16-month-long construction phase expected to conclude in summer of 2021.
MSRE’s Jordan Selig says, “This is an important milestone in our company’s history that ushers in a new era of sustainable commercial real estate in downtown Seattle.”
A new 15-story tower will include 230,000 square feet of office space and 9,000 square feet of ground-level retail space, as well as a 3,500-square-foot landscaped roof. The building will ascend from the original landmark Firestone Tire Building.
A number of green features will be included, such as a sustainable water management system, solar panels and natural light to minimize the use of fossil fuels for artificial lighting. 400 Westlake is designed to generate more energy than it consumes, and use 75% less energy than required by current regulations.
