Los Angeles Approves 41-Story Westlake Apartment Development
Lake on Wilshire, a proposed 41-story tower with 478 apartments at Wilshire Boulevard and Bonnie Brae Avenue overlooking MacArthur Park, has been given the green light by Los Angeles’ Planning Commission. The mixed-use complex is the vision of Dr. Walter Jayasinghe (Dr. J), a local physician who’s owned the Westlake neighborhood site for decades.
In addition to the proposed high-rise apartment development, a colorful performing arts center is incorporated into the plan. Oriented around Sri Lankan culture, the facility is envisioned to include an art gallery, classrooms and an 850-seat auditorium. The site’s 14-story, 1920’s era office building would be converted into a 220-room boutique hotel.
The residential mix includes studio, one-and two-bedroom dwellings, as well as 39 residential units set aside for very low-income households that will be set on top of parking for 933 vehicles.
