Lockheed Martin Becomes Project Tech First Tenant
Defense contractor Lockheed Martin Corp. signed a 15,000-square-foot lease at Project Tech, Port San Antonio’s first cybersecurity building. The Bethesda, MD-based aerospace company is the first tenant in the building, which recently opened on San Antonio’s south side.
The deal represents the company’s first stand-alone office space for its cybersecurity division. Lockheed Martin expects to hire at least 100 employees in the next five years, consisting of systems engineers, software developers and cyber architects.
The tenant liked the 100,000-square-foot Project Tech building, because renovating an existing space to meet its security standards was pricey. Two power substations keep electricity at the building running, while its redundant fiber-optic connections are similar to those found at a data center.
“We think the building is going to be leased-up soon,” Port San Antonio’s Jim Perschbach told the San Antonio Business Journal. “We have more interest in the building than we have space available.”
