Lightstone’s Convention Center Hotel Dev Closer to Reality
New York-based Lightstone’s two-tower hotel project in DTLA near the Convention Center received a vote of confidence from the Los Angeles City Council, which approved the sale of a city-owned parcel to the developer. An 18,811-square-foot parcel at Pico Boulevard and Figueroa Street was acquired for $9.6 million.
Lightstone plans to assemble it with two adjacent privately-owned sites to accommodate the 1,130-room hotel project. The development includes a 42-story tower on Figueroa Street with a pair of Marriott-branded hotels, a 410-room AC Hotel and a 410-room Moxy Hotel. The proposed 25-story tower on Pico Boulevard is planned for a 310-room Hilton Garden Inn Hotel. Construction could begin as soon as Q2 2018.
The city is seeking to add 8,000 hotel rooms within walking distance of the the Convention Center by 2020, in an effort to gain more convention business. There are 4,637 rooms in the area now, with 717 rooms under development.
