Lightfoot Issues Stay-at-Home Advisory as COVID Cases Rise
The Lightfoot administration has issued a stay-at-home advisory as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are increasing in Chicago, with a warning that the city could see 1,000 more deaths by year’s end. The advisory, part of a citywide strategy known as Protect Chicago, takes effect on Monday, Nov. 16.
“Chicago has reached a critical point in the second surge of COVID-19, demanding that we undertake this multi-faceted and comprehensive effort to stop the virus in its tracks,” said Mayor Lori Lightfoot. “Even in this difficult moment, we will continue to unite as we always have for our city in order to halt the rise we’re seeing.”
Along with the stay-at-home order, the city is imposing new restrictions to limit meetings and social events to 10 individuals, both indoors and outdoors. The capacity limit doesn’t supersede industries that already have specific capacity guidelines in place, including retail stores and fitness clubs.
