LEDs and Builder Buy-In

Light-emitting diode (LED) technology is starting to find more favor among home builders. The technology is becoming more affordable, and it’s proving to be much safer than the compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) that came out following the 1973 energy crisis.

Because LEDs are proving to be more functional, versatile and efficient in  cost and performance, builders are paying more attention. Builders embracing the technology point out fewer customer complaints about home lighting. In addition, because there are no light-bulb constraints, LEDs can be incorporated into a variety of applications.

Furthermore, LEDs have a longer lifespan, fewer maintenance requirements, and give off less heat than other light sources.
But not all builders are on board, mainly because LED remains a higher cost technology than CFL.
