League City to Western Spherical: We’re Moving On
A pre-development deal signed between League City, TX and Western Spherical Developers for a sportsplex has been in limbo for several months. As a result, the city is moving ahead on building new baseball fields on the site, at its own expense. To that end, the 4B corporation board set aside $1.5 million to fund planning and design work for the sportsplex’s first phase, Bay Colony Park. The board is also dedicating up to $6.9 million to build four baseball fields, a parking lot and maintenance facility at Ervin Avenue near Calder Road.
The development was originally going to include a convention center, amphitheater hotels, restaurants and shops. But Western Spherical was unable to front money before beginning work.
The need for more sports fields, however, is urgent. “We are at overcapacity,” according to Jason McLendon of the League City Little League.
