Landmarks Commission Honors Adaptive Reuse Projects

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks recently honored 10 distinctive projects from across the City with the 2019 Preservation Excellence Awards, including the rehabilitation of the former Triangle Motors showroom on the Near South Side, the adaptive reuse of the former Johnson Publishing Building in the Loop, and the new construction of a single-family residence in Kenwood.

The winners of the landmark awards were chosen from dozens of projects reviewed by the Commission’s Permit Review Committee. The honorees include property owners, developers, and City agencies.

Other recognized preservation projects include:
• The rehabilitation of the Bee Branch Library in the Douglas community
• The restoration of a historic three-flat in Lakeview
• The rehabilitation of the Near West Side’s Howard Building for retail uses
• The adaptive reuse of the former Episcopal Church of the Advent and adjacent parish house in Logan Square into affordable and market-rate housing
