Landmark Statler Hotel Re-Opens in Dallas Following $255M Redo
Almost two decades after shutting down, the landmark Statler Hotel re-opened in downtown Dallas. The “soft opening” of the 159-key hotel took place after a three-year, $255-million redo. The Statler, at 1914 Commerce St., operates under the Hilton Curio flag.
The Statler opened in 1956 as one of Conrad Hilton’s first convention properties, as well as the first hotel to introduce elevator music. The property, however, fell on hard times in 2001, and was abandoned for many years. In 2014, the Farmer Branch-based Centurion American Development Group acquired the Statler. With close to $50 million in financial incentives from the city of Dallas, the new owner began the renovations.
In addition to the hotel rooms, the Hilton Curio has more than 200 apartments built on the upper floors – about half of them leased. The property also offers restaurants, nightlife, specialty retail outlets and a large-scale event venue.
