Landmark Art Deco Tower Will Become Chicago’s First Pendry Hotel
California-based Montage International acquired the landmark Carbide & Carbon Building at 230 N. Michigan Ave. and will renovate the Art Deco tower to become the first Chicago location for Pendry Hotels & Resorts.
Crain’s Chicago Business reported that Montage acquired the property from longtime owner Becker Ventures, which opened the St. Jane Hotel there two years ago. Terms weren’t disclosed.
“We are incredibly proud to bring Pendry to the great city of Chicago,” said Montage CEO Alan J. Fuerstman. “We plan to honor the history imbued in the Carbide & Carbon Building by elevating and accenting its iconic design, injecting the exceptional service and guest experience for which Pendry Hotels & Resorts are known, and celebrating the remarkable city through food, spirits, art and creativity.”
Montage has sought to open a Chicago Pendry for some time. A previous attempt to bring the brand to Chicago didn’t pan out, Crain’s reported.
