L.A. Council Approves Zoning Changes for 26-Story Tower on Amoeba Site in Hollywood
The Los Angeles City Council approved zoning changes that will allow GPI Companies’ proposed 26-story development to move forward in Hollywood. The complex is envisioned to rise on a site at the corner of Sunset and Cahuenga boulevards that currently houses the Amoeba Music store.
The Los Angeles-based developer acquired the two-story 50,000-square-foot store at 6400 Sunset Blvd. in 2015 for $34 million. Now, the city’s biggest record store, whose lease runs for roughly another year, will give way to a mixed-use tower planned for as many as 200 residential units, as well as 7,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor.
Amoeba indicated that it plans to find another spot to open a store in Los Angeles. The music retailer will also seek to incorporate a marijuana dispensary into the new location.
