L.A. Clippers Announce Plans for $1B Basketball Arena in Inglewood

The Los Angeles Clippers of the NBA plan to build a new, privately-financed $1.1-billion arena and team headquarters in Inglewood, CA. The proposed arena will feature a three-dimensional oval design, with an exterior of metal panels inspired by a basketball swishing through a net.

The Inglewood Basketball & Entertainment Center will offer seating for around 18,500 fans, and will also house the Clippers’ team offices, training facility and a sports medicine clinic. The development will also include retail, restaurants and public basketball courts. One of the more unique features of the facility is the integration of indoor/outdoor terraces called “sky gardens.” These landscaped areas for food and beverage will be accessible from every concourse level.

The project, which was designed by Los Angeles-based architectural and engineering firm AECOM, is expected to create an estimated 10,000 construction jobs and around 1,500 permanent jobs. Anderson Barker Architects and City Design Studio of Los Angeles designed the plaza buildings.

A completion date for the arena has not been set, but the team’s current lease at the Staples Center, which it shares with the L.A. Lakers, is expiring in 2024.
