Kaiser Permanente Building New $900M HQ in Oakland

Kaiser Permanente unveiled plans for a 1.6-million-square-foot headquarters in Oakland that would accommodate 7,200 national and Northern California Region employees and physicians. The $900-million facility will allow the healthcare organization to consolidate workers from seven different locations, and is expected to enhance collaboration and workplace efficiency.

Kaiser Permanente’s Bernard J. Tyson says, “this new headquarters — The Kaiser Permanente Thrive Center — will also bring tremendous benefits to the Uptown neighborhood, serve as a thriving center for the city of Oakland, and be a collaborative workspace for our employees.”

The new building, at 2100 Telegraph Ave., is scheduled to break ground in 2020 and deliver in 2023. Kaiser Permanente has called Oakland home since 1945.

The consolidation will save Kaiser $60 million annually compared with its current seven-building operations, which total 1.7 million square feet, Tyson said, noting that the new offices will be “modern, upbeat, airy” and will have environmental sustainability features.
