Jobs on the Way: Federal Grant Awarded to San Diego Port Project

San Diego is taking steps to spur job growth and higher wages, after recently being named the worst place to build wealth in the nation. The city recently received a $10M federal grant from the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery fund, to enhance the 10th Avenue Marine Terminal port.

The project is expected to bring nearly 600 new jobs to the city, including 300 construction jobs and 290 permanent terminal jobs upon completion. The section of the port being renovated is mostly used for large cargo items.

Getting the grant was not easy. The U.S. Maritime Association says 627 applications were received, but only 39 grants were issued. San Diego’s 10th Avenue Marine Terminal was one of five port projects seeking aid.
