JB&B’s Brian Towers Named New Principal of the Year
Jaros, Baum & Bolles’ Brian Towers (pictured) has been named New Principal of the Year 2018 by the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York. He was honored at the council’s annual meeting on Wednesday.
Towers met ACEC New York’s selection benchmarks with his commitment to energy-efficient, sustainable and resilient design. For example, after Hurricane Sandy flooded the lower levels of 55 Water St. (the city’s largest office building) with 40 million gallons of seawater, Towers devised a plan to fortify the 3.8-million-square-foot Lower Manhattan tower against future storms. He put the building’s fuel oil tanks in submarine vaults, a strategy that is becoming an industry standard.
“During the Hurricane Sandy recovery, Towers played an integral role in our team’s immediate solutions and creative long-term environmental preparedness,” said JB&B managing partner Mitchel Simpler. “His work ethic and values are an excellent representation of what our firm is all about.”
