Japanese Semiconductor Firm Launches $100M Plant in Hillsboro
Sunnyvale, CA-based JSR Micro is developing a $100-million factory in Hillsboro that it envisions being up and running next year. The semiconductor materials specialist purchased the 25.6-acre property at 5950 N.E. Starr Blvd., within the Hillsboro Technology Park in North Hillsboro, earlier this year for $7.1 million.
The subsidiary of JSR Corp, a Japanese petrochemical company, plans to produce products in Hillsboro that assist chipmakers handle increased complexity in the manufacturing processes and reduce defects. The new facility will specialize in “advanced cleans,” a step that removes extra materials from silicon wafers during the manufacturing process.
The plant is eligible for the Enterprise Zone program, though an agreement has yet to be made with the company. It is also near Intel’s Ronler Acres campus, the chipmaker’s most advanced production site.
