INVEST South/West Expands with Four More RFPs

Chicago’s Department of Planning and Development (DPD) on Monday issued requests for proposals for four new neighborhoods in the city’s INVEST South/West economic development program. The RFPs cover city-owned lots in Bronzeville, New City and South Chicago on the South Side, and North Lawndale on the West Side.

Targeted to qualified development teams and nonprofit organizations, the new RFPs come about three months after DPD issued the first three solicitations for sites in Auburn Gresham, Austin and Englewood. They’re being issued a little more than a month after Mayor Lori Lightfoot marked the first anniversary of the program.

The city plans to direct $750 million in public funding from incentive programs into 10 designated commercial corridors on the South and West Sides over a three-year period. That total includes $250 million in existing business development and infrastructure funding from DPD, along with $500 million-plus in planned programming and infrastructure improvements.
