IKEA to Roll Out Smaller-format Store in Midtown
IKEA will introduce its Planning Studio concept to the U.S., with the spring 2019 unveiling of a location at 999 Third Ave. Square footage was not disclosed.
It will also be the furniture retailer’s first center-city store in the U.S. and its first Manhattan location, although it has operated in New York City since 2008, when it opened in Brooklyn’s Red Hook section.
“To be fit for long-term growth, IKEA is transforming in a way that lets us meet our customers where they are,” said IKEA’s Lars Petersson. “New York City is the natural choice to open the first city center store—the most vibrant, dynamic city in the U.S., and the epicenter of retail, business, and culture.”
Customers at the 999 Third store will select and order IKEA products for home delivery. IKEA plans to open 30 of the smaller-format Planning Studio locations over the next few years.
