Hyde Park School to be Converted into Seniors Housing Project

Penrose Development, along with LGBTQ Senior Housing Inc., have announced plans for a 74-unit, LGBTQ-supported affordable seniors housing community in Boston’s Hyde Park neighborhood.

The $33 million project will convert William Barton Rogers Middle School into a residential building with 74 units of income-restricted rental units. In order to qualify, tenants must be at least age 62, and the community will be welcoming to seniors that identify as LGBTQ.

The school was built in 1899 and closed in June of 2015. DiMella Shaffer, a Boston-based architecture firm, designed the project. An estimated completion date was not announced.
