Hutto to Valero’s Fuels Terminal: NIMBY

San Antonio-headquartered oil refiner Valero Energy Corp. is thinking about relocating a proposed $200 million fuel terminal and pipeline project in Williamson County. The consideration came about after city officials in Hutto, near where the storage and distribution facility would have been located, objected to the site.

The original plan was to build a 500,000-barrel gasoline and diesel storage and distribution facility approximately four miles north of Hutto’s city center, near the Williamson County landfill. However, the proposal led to community concern, with Hutto officials asking Valero to reconsider the site. The project “is just too close in to where a lot of our growth activity is going,” remarked Hutto’s Mayor Doug Gaul to the San Antonio Express News.

Valero will be working with the Hutto community to consider an alternate site.
