Hudson Square BID Selects Design Team for New Streetscape
The city and the Hudson Square Business Improvement District have selected a joint consultancy team to create new pedestrian space and amenities between Canal and West Houston streets. It will extend sidewalks along Hudson Street up to five feet.
Along with sidewalk realignments, new pedestrian ramps and a dedicated bicycle lane on Hudson Street, the project will also include 8,041 square feet of planting areas. It will incorporate 2,255 square feet of allowable space for future sidewalk cafes
“The Hudson Street streetscape will become a vibrant destination for surrounding communities,” said James Patchett, president and CEO of the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
Added Ellen Baer, president of Hudson Square BID, “The transformation of Hudson Street into a grand boulevard will make Hudson Square more walkable than ever, and create a continuous stretch of green space and bike lanes throughout this vibrant West Side corridor.”
