How Austin Lured Apple — Again

While the $1 billion-announced Apple campus isn’t receiving specific financial incentives from the city of Austin, local media reports that incentives did play a role in getting the tech giant to Central Texas.

The company, which already has a large campus near where the new one will be built, is set to receive up to $25 million in taxpayer-funded grants from the state’s Texas Enterprise Fund, the Austin American Statesman wrote. Monies from the fund, which are controlled by the governor, are allocated based on a formula involving investment and job creation.

According to Community Impact, Williamson County is considering reimbursing property taxes to Apple, in exchange for the expansion. The campus will be on 133 acres on Robinson Ranch, near Parmer Lane and McNeil Drive, less than a mile away from its current campus.

Austin Curbed also pointed out that factors such as inexpensive talent, a great deal of land, and low cost of living also could have been behind the decision.
