Historic 101 Cafe Sold
101 Cafe, a nostalgic diner in Oceanside, was sold by two childhood friends, John Daley and David Ranson to Cesar Galvez, a Del Mar resident whose family owns restaurants in Texas and Spain. The cafe, located at the corner of Wisconsin St., was built in 1928 and reportedly is the longest-running diner on the 1,540-mile Highway 101.
Daley and Ranson bought the iconic restaurant in the mid-1980s, and turned it into popular North County eatery. The cafe frequently hosts local events, and has been featured in news articles, magazines and television clips around the world.
The diner thrives on classic breakfast dishes, omelettes, burgers and sandwiches, with a theme that combines classic cars and old-time Oceanside. Galvez says one change being considered is extending the restaurant’s hours from 2 p.m. to 10 or 11 p.m.
