Hilton Opens First Tri-Brand Hotel Across from McCormick Place

Hilton has upped the ante for multi-brand properties generally, and for competing downtown hotels in particular, opening its first-ever tri-branded hotel across from McCormick Place. The Hiltons at McCormick Place, which opened Tuesday, is connected via skybridge to the nation’s largest convention center.

The new property, which adds 466 keys to what’s now a total of about 2,900 keys physically connected to McCormick, is likely to keep more convention attendees in the neighborhood rather than staying in the CBD. “The big box hotels [downtown] will compete aggressively on group business, and then it’s just a race to the bottom on [room] rate,” Murphy Development Group’s John Murphy told Crain’s Chicago Business. “Some of the large block hotels are going to feel that impact.”

The 22-story property includes Hilton Garden Inn Chicago McCormick Place, Hampton Inn by Hilton Chicago McCormick Place, and Home2 Suites by Hilton Chicago McCormick Place.
