Herald Examiner Building Becoming Mixed-Use

More and more adaptive re-use is going on in downtown Los Angeles, especially near 11th Street and S. Broadway.

Co-owners of the vacant Herald Examiner building, Georgetown Co. and Hearst Corp., are spending $40 million to convert the Mission Revival-style structure into a mixed-use property with offices and ground floor restaurants. When completed in 2017, the historic building will reportedly encompass about 80,000 square feet of creative office space.

Development activity continues to flourish in the area, with several new projects underway. Directly across from the former Herald Examiner structure, the historic 13-story Case Hotel is being converted into the boutique L.A. Proper Hotel. Forest City is also building two residential and retail complexes nearby.
