Healthcare Technology Hits Major Retailers’ Shelves

By: Daniella Soloway

As the baby boomer population ages and health technology innovates, the lines between healthcare, fitness, and retail continue to blur. Following this trend, Target will offer 14-medical grade connected healthcare devices, including blood pressure monitors and scales, in 550 stores across the country.

Retailers continue to adopt healthcare technology, as fitness wearables have become more than a fashion trend and way to keep track of one’s physical activity. Major corporations are utilizing these devices to bridge the gap between individuals and healthcare services.

Mckinsey, a global management consulting firm, estimates that $225 billion will be spent nationally on medical technology in 2020, accounting for 42% of the worldwide spend.
