Healthcare CRE is Evolving; What’s on the Horizon?

Connect Healthcare is set for a return engagement in 2018, after debuting last year. If you are in healthcare real estate or want to learn how this specialized niche really works, this is a must-attend conference. The power-packed line-up of speakers slated to gather at The Resort at Pelican Hill October 29 and 30 are expected to deliver deep insights into an evolving space.

Healthcare real estate’s most active players nationally, as well as providers and hospital systems, will address the industry’s most pressing topics. Five planned panels will explore behavioral health facilities, recreating mixed-use space, the state of the capital markets and technology trends propelling the industry forward.

A panel titled, Market on Fire: The New Generation of MOB’s, Mixed-Use Facilities & More, will explore the market’s robust development pipeline and flood of investment, which has pushed the red-hot MOB sector toward record growth and expansion. Growth drivers, project types for new delivery models, investment options and unlocking value will be covered by a panel slated to include, Stockdale Capital’s Andrew Saba, Sudweeks Development & Investment Company’s Brandon Sudweeks, Generations LLC’s Chip Gabriel, Hobbs+Black Architects’ John Barker and Caretrust REIT’s Mark Lamb.

FreemanWhite’s Brian Adams, Dignity Health’s Jeffrey W. Land, WeShareMD’s George Scopetta, Anthem Memory Care’s Isaac Scott and Silverado Senior Housing’s Paul Mullin will make a presentation on Bold Ideas and Innovations Transforming Healthcare. These innovative minds in healthcare will share new ideas and innovations in design, telemedicine, amenities, sustainability, wellness, and more.

A panel titled REITs, Private Equity, and Foreign Capital Shaking Up the Market will delve into what’s behind the significant increase in the amount of capital from those investment sources. This influx has had a profound effect on the industry, shifting the the flow of capital to specific property types as investors adjust risk levels and investment strategies accordingly. The panel includes Cushman & Wakefield’s Travis Ives, LTC’s Clint Malin, CBRE’s Shane Seitz, American Healthcare Investors’ Stefan Oh, Capital One’s Natalie Sproull and Sabra Healthcare REIT’s Talya Nevo-Hacohen.

Our panel titled Crisis Management: Surging Demand for Behavioral Health, will explore why behavioral hospitals have emerged as one of the fastest-growing types of healthcare facilities with major REITs and healthcare systems competing to create new facilities. Leading experts including G&L Realty Corp.’s David LebowitzAnthony C. Ping and Associates’ PingBehavioral Health Association of Providers’ Andrew Martin, and WRP/Klean Centers’ Andrew Spanswick will discuss the opportunities and challenges facing a burgeoning sector.

 The final panel of the day is titled The Convergence of Retail & Healthcare: Sky’s The Limit. The conversation will focus on “retailization” of healthcare, a trend that continues with no signs of waning. That often means pharmacies, grocery stores, and drugstores ramping up real estate strategies to include urgent care, wellness centers, and full-service medical clinics. The conversation will explore opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in the next phase of the retailization of healthcare. Cox Castle Nicholson’s Andrew Fogg will moderate, and panelists include Fresenius Kidney Care’s Brian Galligan, JLL’s Bryan Lewitt and Meridian Property Company’s Mike Conn.
