Habitat Proposes Apartment Tower in Fulton River District

Habitat is planning a 33-story apartment tower in the Fulton River District, not far from the Fulton Market District and two newer office buildings as well as the under-development Salesforce Tower Chicago, Crain’s Chicago Business reported. “It’s the perfect point between the West Loop and the Loop,” Habitat president Matt Fiascone said of his proposed building at 344 N. Canal St.

Crain’s reported that Habitat has signed a contract to buy the development site, which is owned by the family behind Cassidy Tire & Service. Cassidy occupies a low-rise brick building on the property that would be torn down to make way for Habitat’s tower, which is being designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz and would cost $140 million to $150 million.

Current zoning for 344 N. Canal would not permit residential. Therefore, Habitat will seek a zoning change from the city.

Habitat’s Matt Fiascone will be a featured speaker at Connect Chicago, coming up on May 14! Click here to register for the event.
