Group Seeks Answers on Making Chicago a “First Tier” Tech Hub
A group led by Penny Pritzker and software company founder Chris Gladwin hopes to devise a plan for making Chicago more competitive as a tech hub. The initiative, known as Plan for 2033, was laid out Wednesday evening in a private forum at the Commercial Club.
“We’re a solid second-tier tech city,” Gladwin told Crain’s Chicago Business. “Now we’re in a position to think what would it take to make it into the first tier? How does that happen, how could we enable that to happen bigger and faster than it otherwise would?”
The group, which sounded out some 150 Chicago business leaders, intends to come up with an action plan over the next six months. Among the questions it will address are how the city can retain the tech talent from schools in Illinois and across the Midwest, and how to better market its attributes as a tech center.
