Groundbreaking Takes Place for $83M Texas Tech Lab & Classroom Building

A ceremonial groundbreaking took place May 2, 2017 for an $83 million research lab and classroom building on the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, El Paso campus. Official construction on the five-story, 219,000-square-foot Medical Sciences Building II will begin in mid-May, with completion scheduled by spring 2019. Sundt Construction is the general contractor.

The building at Alameda Avenue and Concepcion Street in Central El Paso is the campus’ fourth building to go north on the medical school campus within the past several years. The new building will provide classroom and administrative space, while doubling research space. The extra research space will help recruit more scientists, noted Richard Lange, president of the Texas Tech El Paso campus, and dean of the El Paso Medical School.
