Groundbreaking Set for Hays Street Bridge Apartments
Developers of a controversial apartment project near San Antonio’s Hays Street Bridge received the final go-ahead from City Manager Sheryl Sculley to build. Construction on the project, which will be situated on Cherry Street on the east side, is contingent on eight stipulations. With the approval, developer Loopy Ltd. is planning to launch construction by the first part of 2019, after The Bridge, as it’s called, had been in limbo for about a year.
There is, however, still a potential snag. The Hays Street Bridge Restoration Group sued the city in 2012, indicating that the sale of property next to the Hays Street Bridge to Alamo Beer Co. violated state law, and breached a memorandum of understanding that called for it to be developed as a park. The Texas Supreme Court recently agreed to hear arguments on whether the city is immune to that breach of contract suit.
