Greenspoint Mall Under Contract, Future Uncertain

Global Plaza Unit has agreed to acquire the 1-million-square-foot Greenspoint Mall, at Interstate 45 and Beltway 9 (Sam Houston Tollway) in Houston, just north of downtown. The new owners, which are acquiring the property from Triyar Cannon Group, are considering three new concepts for the retail mall, which has been losing stores and customers over the past several years.

Reggie Gray with the Houston Intercontinental Chamber of Commerce facilitated the transaction. He told the Houston Chronicle that the deal should close within the next four months.

Greenspoint Mall, at 12300 North Fwy., opened four decades ago with Foley’s and Montgomery Ward as two of its anchors. Once considered among the largest malls in the region, fierce competition and the advent of online retail chipped away at its shopping base. Sears closed its store three years ago, while Macy’s closed in early 2017.
