GrayStreet Partners Envisions 20-Story Office & Hotel Building
GrayStreet Partners proposed a 20-story hotel and office tower on Broadway in downtown San Antonio. The 260-foot tower would go north near the Pearl development. The problem, however, is that its height would exceed zoning regulations in effect to protect the San Antonio River.
The tower, which would allow for a 10-story hotel, four stories of offices, three of parking and ground-floor retail, would be more than double the maximum height allowed of new construction. Buildings in the district are restricted to 10 stories, at a 120-foot height maximum.
The city’s Historic and Design Review Commission (HDRC) will consider granting initial approval to the San Antonio developer for the project on March 21, 2018. According to the agenda, the city of San Antonio determined the tower wouldn’t “cast harmful shadows over the river.”
