Gotham, Brooklyn Music School Partner on Brooklyn Apts.

Brooklyn Music School (BMS) and the Gotham Organization plan to build a new, 20,000-square-foot facility for BMS adjacent to its existing space, as part of a 167,000-square-foot mixed-use development in the Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District. The proposal also calls for a 24-story, FXCollaborative-designed building containing 120 for-sale apartments, 30% of which will be affordable.

The new facility will more than double BMS’ instructional space. BMS serves more than 8,000 students at its historic site in Fort Greene, and at schools, community centers and senior centers citywide.

“Public-private partnerships, like this one, help create opportunities that directly benefit the neighborhood and its residents,” said Bryan Kelly, EVP of Gotham Organization.

“Not only will BMS be able to serve more of the community in more ways, this plan gives New Yorkers of moderate income means the security of establishing a long-term home and the ability to generate equity.”
