Google Sets Sail on Caribbean, 1M-SF Sunnyvale Development

Google unveiled a new office project in Sunnyvale, CA that could total more than one million square feet of space and house 4,500 employees. The search giant is proposing to build Caribbean, a two-building facility on a more than 40-acre site it owns in the Moffett Park district.

The property currently contains 13 single-story buildings totaling 801,670 square feet, ranging from warehouse and light manufacturing, to R&D and office uses. Those buildings would give way to new five-story buildings, one totaling 505,000 square feet at 200 W. Caribbean Dr. and another totaling nearly 538,000 square feet at 100 W. Caribbean Dr.

The proposed floor-to-ceiling glass-clad buildings feature sloping cascades of levels designed by Bjarke Ingels Group to create outdoor spaces inside, while adding accessible, useable green roofs.

The Mountain View-based company acquired roughly 50 properties in Sunnyvale valued at more than $1 billion this past year.
