Google Seeks to Build First California Project
Conceptual plans have surfaced for Google’s proposed 18.6-acre Charleston East mixed-use office, R&D and retail project in Mountain View, located next door to the tech giant’s Googleplex. The project would be the first office Google builds from the ground up in California.
Google wants to construct a two-level, 595,000-square-foot office building, with 45,000 square feet of interior landscaping and an 18,500-square-foot “public route” through native habitats and vegetation.
Charleston East’s design includes a large, translucent network of canopies to control indoor climate, yet let in light and air. Rather than constructing immoveable concrete structures, the architects have created lightweight block-like structures that flex according to Google’s teams needs.
