Google Opens Pop-Up Shop in Bucktown
Google has opened a new pop-up “hardware store” at 1704 N. Damen Ave. in the North Side’s Bucktown neighborhood. The pop-up location, which Google is reportedly using to gather retail information in advance of opening a flagship store downtown, will be open through Dec. 31.
“Welcome to the Google Hardware Store in Bucktown! We’ve got the tools you need to make your life easier at home, at work and on-the-go,” Google says in a Facebook posting, adding that the pop-up is “the only place you can shop Google products in a fully Google-made experiential space.” The company has opened a similar pop-up in Manhattan.
The pop-up location allows customers hands-on opportunities to try out Google’s new smartphones, smart speakers and other technology, according to the Chicago Business Journal. It follows Amazon’s recent opening of its first cashierless, grab-and-go food store outside its hometown of Seattle.
