Google Cuts Blockbuster $1B Deal for Mountain View Campus
Google acquired Britannia Shoreline Technology Park in Mountain View, CA from HCP Inc. for $1 billion. The deal for the 12-building, 795,663-square-foot office campus ranks as the largest in the region this year.
The nearly 52-acre campus, which formerly housed LinkedIn’s HQ, is located at 2011-2091 Stierlin Court. The tech giant’s Googleplex headquarters is located a few blocks west of the Britannia Shoreline campus.
The Irvine, CA-based seller, which focuses on healthcare real estate assets, had acquired the property before the Great Recession of 2008. SEC filings by HCP indicate it will realize roughly $700 million in gains on the sale. Proceeds are expected to go toward repaying debt, as well as redeploying some into new acquisitions, development and redevelopment projects.
The deal tops Jay Paul’s $284-million acquisition of the Cityview Plaza mixed-use property in downtown San Jose in July, as well as the $291-million Ferry Building complex in San Francisco in October.
