Google Adds Milk Building to NYC Holdings

Already the owner or tenant of much of the commercial property between West 15th and West 16th streets in Manhattan, Google now owns even more. Crain’s New York Business reported that the tech giant acquired 450 W. 15th St., known as the Milk Studios Building, from Jamestown Properties for an undisclosed sum. Jamestown had paid $284 million for the 325,000-square-foot property in 2013.

The building is connected by a bridge to Chelsea Market, which Google acquired from Atlanta-based Jamestown last year for $2.4 billion. Google plans to occupy three of the Milk Building’s eight floors, Crain’s reported.

“This purchase will help us meet our short-term growth needs in Chelsea-Meatpacking,” Google’s William Floyd told Crain’s.

Google has more than 8,000 employees locally, and plans to double that number over the next decade. It also owns 111 Eighth Ave., the city’s fourth-largest office building at 2.9 million square feet.
