GECU Unveils HQ Expansion Plans

GECU, the largest, locally-owned financial institution in El Paso, announced plans to expand its headquarters. To that end, the company will build a three-story, 40,000-square-foot building next to its current 88,000-square-foot headquarters building at 1225 Airway Blvd. in East Central El Paso. Construction on the facility is anticipated to begin in late August or early September 2018, with opening to take place in 2020.

The headquarters building holds 350 employees, and is already full. It’s uncertain how many people will be working in the new building.

The financial institution’s current location, which opened in 2008, is known as the “diamond in the desert” because of its uneven, sharp edges. GECU has 376,000 members, more than $2.6 billion in assets and approximately 800 employees across 25 branches throughout the El Paso area.
