Facebook Plans $800M Data Center at ChicagoWest
Facebook said Tuesday that its newest worldwide data center will be built in DeKalb, IL. Among the largest facilities of its kind in Illinois, the 907,000-square-foot, $800-million Facebook DeKalb Data Center will be built on 505 acres of Krusinksi Construction Company’s 1,000-acre ChicagoWest Business Center property.
“There are many variables that enter into the decision process for data center locations, and DeKalb provided many compelling reasons for Facebook to bring our newest data center to Illinois,” said Rachel Peterson, VP of data center strategy for Facebook.
DeKalb Mayor Jerry Smith and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker joined Facebook for an announcement video in lieu of a traditional groundbreaking, due to COVID-19 limitations.
Krusinski Construction Company CEO Jerry Krusinski, a longtime advocate for increasing Illinois’ appeal as a data center site, was called “one of the thought leaders on this project” by Paul Borek, DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation executive director.
