Facebook Plans $750M Data Center Near Atlanta
Menlo Park, CA-based Facebook revealed plans for a $750-million data center near Atlanta. The investment, which is being driven by a seemingly insatiable appetite for data storage, will be made over a five-year period. Construction is slated to commence later this month, and the facility is expected to be fully operational in 2020.
Plans for the data center include two buildings totaling roughly 970,000 square feet. The Stanton Springs facility will be powered exclusively with renewable energy, and will also house Facebook’s hyper-efficient hardware, which powers apps and other services.
The facility in Newton County is roughly 45 miles east of downtown Atlanta along Interstate 20, and will be the social media giant’s ninth U.S. data center. More than 100 full-time jobs will be created as a result of the data center.
