Facebook Cracks Down on Advertisers That Provide “Bad Shopping Experiences”

Facebook has launched a tool enabling users to review businesses from whom they’ve bought products through the website, with a view toward cracking down on sellers of shoddy merchandise. If the social media giant receives enough negative feedback about a seller and the seller fails to clean up its act, the result could be a total ban of that company’s ads on Facebook.

Although Facebook already had community standards and ads policies that govern the ads on its platform, the company noted that “these don’t apply to bad shopping experiences off Facebook, like after clicking an ad to an online retailer’s site or app to make a purchase.”

The company said it spoke with users who have purchased products from advertisers on the site. “The two biggest frustrations we heard were that people don’t like ads that quote inaccurate shipping times or  misrepresent products.” The new tool will enable Facebook to share feedback directly with sellers, and provide them with guidance on improving customer service.
