Facebook Building Ninth Data Center in Central Oregon
Facebook is expanding its Prineville Data Center in Central Oregon by an additional 450,000 square feet. That means that, once completed, this nine-building data center campus will represent an investment of more than $2 billion and more than 13 years of building in Prineville.
Construction of the new building commenced last week on a site roughly 20 miles east of Redmond. When complete in 2023, the campus will consist of nearly 40 million square feet. The development team plans to implement proper measures due to COVID-19 to ensure crew safety.
The social media giant christened its first corporate data center in Prineville in 2011, and has continued to expand its footprint. Oregon offers lucrative tax breaks that exempt high-cost computers from the property tax bills other businesses pay. Facebook saved nearly $74 million in its first six years in Oregon from tax breaks.
