Evergreen Wins Plaudits for Library/Senior Housing Projects

Two co-located library and senior housing developments Evergreen Real Estate Group completed last year on Chicago’s North Side have won the 2020 Library Building Awards from the American Institute of Architects and American Library Association.

A six-member jury selected Independence Branch Library and Apartments in Irving Park and Northtown Branch Library and Apartments in West Ridge. Built in partnership with the city of Chicago, Chicago Housing Authority and Chicago Public Library, the projects were two of four winners recognized in the U.S. and Canada.

“It is a true honor to receive these awards, and it’s particularly special for both of our co-located library/housing projects to earn this prestigious distinction,” said David Block, Evergreen’s director of development. “By co-locating affordable senior housing with new public library branches, the developments stand as an example of how multiple neighborhood needs can be addressed through a single, architecturally significant project.”
