Etsy Headquarters Wins Latest Sustainability Certification
April 17, 2017
Etsy has won the most recent battle in the arms race to achieve the latest certification for sustainability. Its headquarters in Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighborhood earned a Living Building Challenge Petal certification.
With more than 200,000 square feet of space, the building at 117 Adams St. is the largest in the world to earn the certification, and the first in New York City.
Etsy has committed to keeping 90 percent of the waste produced in its 10 offices around the world from landfills. That will mean a lot of recycling and composting, in addition to getting the vendors that work with Etsy to reduce excess packaging.
“We believe that our efforts to minimize our environmental impact can have a favorable impact on our operating costs in the long term,” says Devon Leahy, director of sustainability and social innovation for Etsy.
