EPIcenter: San Antonio’s $74M Clean-Energy Hub
A former power plant just south of downtown San Antonio is being renovated and upgraded to a facility dedicated to the development and implantation of clean energy. Dubbed EPIcenter (short for Energy-Partnerships-Innovation), the facility is being viewed by the city as a location where development of different types of clean energy will be taking place. The project is expected to cost $74 million; as of late December 2016, $22 million had been raised. Construction will launch when more funding is secured, and officials would like to see the project completed by 2020-2021.
The site of the center will be the Mission Road Power Plant, on 200 Mission, which has been vacant for several years. The property renovation will include a conference center, as well as exhibits on clean energy and incubation spaces for development of alternative energy uses.
